What we do

DEK is the world's leading provider of screen printing equipment and processes for diverse industries, including surface mount, semiconductor and alternative energies. In practical terms, this means that from computing through to communications, many of the big brand electronic products you use today are build on production lines featuring DEK equipment. Mobile phones, household appliances, car gadgetry - you name it, if it's got a printed circuit board, the chances are we've had something to do with it!

But, if you haven't worked in the electronics industry before, it's not always easy to comprehend exactly what it is we do here. So, let's go back to basics. Click on the tab to learn more about how we're a driving force in the manufacture of printed circuit boards, solar cells and fuel cells.

President Michael Brianda talks about
DEK's core competencies and the outlook for 2010

Printed Circuit Boards

DEK's high accuracy mass imaging platforms deposit materials through a stencil onto printed circuit boards. This is a high accuracy procedure which incorporates a wide range of technical challenges in order to maintain an optimal print. Our platforms sit in production lines with placement machines and ovens, securing the components in place and ensuring electronic contact for the whole circuit. Our ability to mass produce circuit boards with speed and accuracy has made DEK the market leader in this field.

Solar Cells

Solar cells generate clean, pollution-free electricity from sunlight and are found in applications from calculators, through roadside signs up to very large arrays to generate serious amounts of electricity. A major driver in the global push towards widespread alternative energies consumption, solar is a rapidly growing commercialised industry.

DEK's pioneering PV platforms deposit advanced materials through a precision screen to form an established position on the silicon solar cell. The silicon itself is extremely thin and very fragile, like glass. The printed pattern is critical, the silver lines need to be extremely narrow to maximise the area of the cell that the sun can shine on. However, they also need to be relatively tall to maximise the electrical current. Our technology leadership places our customers in a strong position to face every solar challenge that comes their way.

Fuel Cells

Fuel Cells are also used as an alternative method by which to generate electricity, this time by passing a clean gas like hydrogen or a clean fuel like alcohol through a thin metal film. They can replace batteries in had-held equipment and are also found inside 'hybrid' cars and inside lorry-sized containers, again for generating serious power.

Our advanced mass imaging platforms deposit both metal and glass pastes through a precision screen onto the cell. In this case, the cell is made of either ceramic or plastic. Typically production lines comprise a number of DEK print platforms, together with ovens to convert the wet pastes into solid conductors and insulators.
